T he Trial
10 Tips on how to prepare for your
A trial is the perfect opportunity for you & Kim to discuss the style of your wedding and the dream look you envision wearing. It's also a great chance to get to know one another before your big day so you can be completely at ease with who you share your special morning with. Kim absolutely loves trial's and getting to find out all about her Brides To Be & their wedding plans.
A full bridal consultation will take place to allow Kim to understand your skin type, your makeup likes & your dislikes, your preferred skin textures, colours and the intensity of makeup you like and feel comfortable wearing. Be prepared for a lot of questions at your trial - this is to ensure not a single detail is missed in perfecting your vision.
Lot's of Kim's brides have never worn makeup before or have worn little makeup and naturally, can feel nervous about getting their makeup done professionally for the first time. Having a trial offers reassurance for both you and Kim that on the day you will be nothing but 100% in love with your makeup and the way it makes you feel.
This is why there is a minimum requirement of at least 1 trial for all Brides to ensure you know exactly what to expect on the morning of your Wedding.
Other members of your bridal party are also more than welcome to have a trial too. This is a lovely way to make an occasion of the day and make plans for afterwards to fully test and try your wedding day look for longevity.
Trials will take place at your chosen location where Kim will travel to you directly.
Kim recommends a make-up trial around 4-6 weeks prior to the Wedding but this can be booked more in advance if you'd like.
Trials usually take between 2 hours to 2 and a half hours. Anything longer than this would require a second trial to be booked.
Once your look is created, everything used during the trial is documented and photos are taken of your beautiful finished look. Kim takes photo's with a Ring Light so you can get a true resemblance of how your makeup will look in the natural light / with flash on/off on the day.
An agenda for your wedding day will also be prepared at the trial, this guarantee's a smooth running order taking into consideration any hairdresser's and photographers who may also be present on the day.
The Wedding Day
Kim will arrive at your chosen venue at a time pre-agreed; This gives you piece of mind you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy your special morning before you say "I do" without worrying about a thing.
Bridal makeup will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours depending on how detailed the look you’ve decided to go for is.
The rest of the bridal party’s makeup prep takes approx 60 minutes.
Brides tend to want to be ready with their makeup being complete about an hour before leaving for the ceremony. This ensures enough time to get dressed, have a glass of champagne, have photo's taken and travel to your venue.
Time can disappear extremely quickly on the morning of the wedding, therefore Kim highly recommends scheduling plenty of time for the makeup before having to leave for the ceremony, ensuring you a calm relaxed morning. Depending on the size of your Bridal booking Kim may recommend using a makeup assistant to ensure everyone can all be ready within perfect time.
Kim will ensure the Bride and Bridal party's make-up looks nothing but flawless before you leave for the Ceremony. It is common that the bridal party will have breakfast while hair & makeup is well underway so don't worry - all Lipsticks can be topped up to perfection at the end and Kim will be on hand for any other last minuet touch ups too like an extra coat of mascara or an extra dab of blush or powder.
"How many people can you do on a wedding morning?"
This is totally down to timings and when you need to be ready. If for example you get married at 1pm and your bridal party is made up of 6 people, then I would aim to have everyone completed by 12 o'clock, meaning a 6am start for makeups. This gives you all time to get dressed, for photographers to do their thing and make sure you aren't all rushing around last minuet. Most commonly I allocate 1 hour for the Bride and 50 minuets per person for everyone else. I also require to factor in time to fully clean and sanitise my kit in between each person.
"Do I need a makeup trial before the day?"
My recommendation is yes, yes and triple yes. The trial is the perfect time where we get together and work out our plans. You might love a million pictures, but it's unlikely you will know whether they will suit you. There are lots of factors that need to be discussed before the day so when it comes to the wedding morning everything goes seamlessly, with no stress. You will have reassurance that if you change your mind in the run up to your wedding on some small changes this can be altered on the day with ease.
"Do my bridesmaids need a trial?"
Not necessarily. Most of my brides like their bridesmaids to all look similar, or to have a similar kind of theme so it's much easier to adopt a style to work for everyone. However, if you have a bridesmaid who is very particular, nervous or just wants to see the finished look in advance, then a trial is recomended.
"I'm unsure what look to go for?"
It's very likely that you booked me, or you are thinking about booking me by looking at my work on Instagram/Facebook and liking what you see. My very best advice is to start by choosing styles from my page. When you come for your trial, we'll take lots of factors into account. Your dress, your wedding theme, your hair colour etc. We'll also look at how you wear your makeup normally every day and when you go out for a special occasion. I'm a big believer that you should feel absolutely comfortable with what your going to have on the wedding day. You should never look in the mirror and think that's just not me! I've no doubt that you will have lots of inspirational pictures so we'll take a look at them and see the kind of things that you like, and from there we can create something to suit you and your style.
"When should I book my Makeup Trial?"
I recommend having your trial 4-6 weeks before the wedding. If using a regular skincare routine, your skin will be the closest resemblance to what it will be like on the day at this time. I do get very busy in wedding season so please give me plenty of notice to book your trial, at least 3 months before. I am only available for trials Saturdays and Sundays due to working another job during weekdays.
